School of Arts and Design - Fashion Design (DESN)

Students in the fashion design program take courses in fashion illustration, computer-aided design, fashion design history, patternmaking, garment construction and textiles. In addition, students learn to set up fashion design businesses from concept to creation.

With a certificate in fashion design, students may transfer to a 4-year college. Many students in the program chose to study fashion and costume design for an entrepreneurial business, the stage and film industry or art/sculptural practice.

Fashion design faculty members are practicing fashion and costumer designers, tailors, CAD specialists and product designers. Their currency in the fashion industry allows them to teach state of the art fashion design. The SFCC design studio is a fully equipped, professional, fashion design production house; it is equipped with industrial sewing machines, cutting tables and industry specific dress forms.

SFCC is the only public college in the State of New Mexico to offer a certificate in fashion design. A Fashion Design Club organizes trips and events for fashion students to domestic design marts, New York, Rome, Italy, or Paris for focused study.

This program is available as a certificate .
