About the Program
Do you have the ability to work with people, pay attention to detail, follow instructions, learn to operate advanced equipment and work as part of a team? Then a career in respiratory therapy may be right for you. Respiratory therapists help patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders and work in the hospital setting, home care, and clinics under the direction of a physician.
SFCC's AAS in Respiratory Therapy consists of 73.25 credit hours of medical, science and general education requirements. Courses specific to respiratory care include critical care; home care; adult, pediatric and infant respiratory care; and pulmonary function testing.
The median annual earnings for respiratory therapists is $51,587 in Santa Fe based on www.salary.com. The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) job analysis survey data lists the median annual earnings at over $50K. Job outlook is expected to increase faster than average through the year 2014 as the number of middle-aged and elderly Americans increases.
