College and Department Data
Data provided by College and "Department" assists Deans and department chairs to better serve SFCC students by more effectively planning course offerings and schedules.
In this case, "department" is defined as the unique four character term in Banner that defines a unique CIP (DOE Classification of Instructional Programs) Code, more than one of which may actually be included in an instructional department.
Degrees Awarded -- Figures in tables presenting degrees awarded by major may need to be combined to reflect the activity of a given department. Degrees awarded do not necessarily represent unduplicated persons, as one student may, in some cases, attain both a certificate and a degree, or two associate degrees simultaneously.
Success Rates -- Success rates present the proportion of all students who attained an "A," "B," "C," "P" or "IP" grade in a given department or course in a given term or year of all students who enrolled in that department or course for a grade (not Audit) and did not withdraw prior to census. Success in any given course, but particularly in what are termed "Gateway" courses, is considered an important precursor to retention.
Student Credit Hours by Department -- Student credit hours are computed by multiplying the number of students in a given class by the number of credits that particular class is worth. Cumulative student credit hours by department by term and by year in relation to the full-time equivalent faculty in that department is an important workload measure in most colleges and universities.
