How do I borrow something from the library?
To borrow items you must:
- currently be a student or employee of Santa Fe Community College, Santa Fe Community College's Adult Basic Education Program, University of New Mexico at SFCC or New Mexico Highlands University at SFCC
- fill out a form with your information
- present a valid photo ID card
You may borrow up to eight items at a time, up to three of which may be DVDs or videotapes.
Patrons requiring assistance may authorize others to check out or renew materials for them by sending a written authorization to the library front desk. The patron's ID card must be presented for each transaction. For additional information, please contact Special Services at 428-1331.
How do I borrow something from another library?
The Library Passport Certificate Program allows students, faculty and staff to borrow materials from other academic libraries around New Mexico. It will be the responsibility of the patron to observe all regulations of the lending library. The New Mexico Consortium of Academic Libraries has created this program as a resource-sharing service for the convenience of library patrons.
To obtain a Passport Certificate for a participating library, a patron must:
- be in good standing with SFCC Library,
- present a valid ID
Interlibrary Loan Services allow SFCC students, faculty and staff to obtain materials that are not available at SFCC Library. Materials may be borrowed from most libraries within the United States by submitting a Interlibrary Loan Request Form to the library.
How do I request something that is checked out?
If an item you wish to borrow is checked out, ask a library staff member to place a hold on the item. When it is brought back, we will contact you and set it aside for you to pick up at the library front desk.
Library materials returned to the front desk in the library or at three on-campus book drops. Book drops are located outside the library entrance, at the campus entrance by the bus stop, and by the Information Desk at the school's main entrance.
Reserve items and interlibrary loans should only be returned in person to the library's front desk.
What if I return something late?
Your library and/or SFCC student account will be suspended until late materials are returned or paid for. A suspended library account will block a user from checking out any more materials. A suspended student account, or a hold, will prevent a student from registering for classes or checking grades until the obligation is cleared.
How do I use materials my instructor put on reserve?
If you wish to use materials that are on reserve for a class, ask a worker at the front desk to help you. You will need an ID to use the materials. Reserve materials are usually borrowed for two hours in the library only and must be returned to the front desk.
Instructors may place library or personal materials on reserve for use by their students. Please allow a lead time of 24-48 hours for materials to be processed.
