Types Of Financial Aid

The four major categories of financial aid are:

  1. Grants: Grants are gift-aid and are based on financial need. Grants do not have to be repaid. You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). www.fafsa.ed.gov
  2. Loans: Loans are based on various criteria, and funds must be repaid. You must have a completed (FAFSA) on file for the current year and you will need to schedule a loan entrance session at the Financial Aid Office to start the loan process.
Once your loan application has been processed, you can sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at https://secure.nmeaf.org/sfcc (please note the "s" after "http"), provided that you have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). You may apply for your PIN through the FAFSA website(http://www.fafsa.ed.gov).
You will also need to complete a Loan Entrance Counseling Session online at http://www.mapping-your-future.org. Please note that you must maintain at least half-time status to receive your loan disbursement. If you drop below half-time status, you will need to complete the Loan Exit Counseling Session online at http://www.mapping-your-future.org.
