Bilingual Endorsement
Certificate in Bilingual Education Endorsement (CERT)
About the Program
The teacher certification program recognizes that not all successful teachers start out with a bachelor's degree in education. Biologists, businessmen, social workers and others in a variety of careers can bring important knowledge, experience and talents to a second career in teaching. The teacher certification program allows them to earn teacher licenses without going back to college for another degree.
The Bilingual Education Endorsement Program is a 36 credit hour program. This program facilitates achievement of the New Mexico State Department of Education's entry-level teacher competencies. These competencies also comply with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education's (NCATE) standards, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The courses are systematically organized into a natural sequence of integrated subject matter. The courses are valued at three-to-four credit hours each.
Basic Requirements for Admission*:
- Level 1 Teaching License or higher.
- Completion of Bilingual Endorsement Program Application.
- Official college transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate study.
- Three letters of reference.
- Application to Santa Fe Community College if not already on file.
* These basic requirements are subject to change.
