Classes are just one way to find out about a career. Here are some other options and ideas:
Internships are an excellent way to "try on" a career. Many programs at SFCC incorporate paid and unpaid internships into their certificate and degree plans. Internships can also be customized and created to match your interests. You don't even have to be enrolled as a student to use an internship. Volunteering is another great way to get free training, on-the job experience and "try on" a career. SFCC's Service Learning Department has hundreds of resources for volunteer opportunities. SFCC students can receive academic credit for their volunteer work. Click here to access page. SFCC offers a wide variety of educational programs that offer practical training to get you working in a new career area quickly, a great associates degree to start your career or be the first stepping stone in achieving advanced degrees, or we can help you develop your own education plan. More reduced tuition options for New Mexico residents and SFCC graduates: Santa Fe Community College is a member of the Western Undergraduate Exchange(WUE), a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). If you are a resident of a WICHE state, you can study out-of-state at one of the 135+ participating schools in the West and pay reduced tuition (150% of the resident rate). Search the WUE Online Database to see which institutions and programs are available. WICHE states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. SFCC's Annual College Night; National 2 and 4 year college recruiters are here for high school seniors and any other interested community members. Every October in the Fitness Center Gym at SFCC. The Career Information System (CIS) is a web-based program that holds information about more than 500 occupations, uses the Peterson's Guide to Colleges and Universities, State and U.S. Department of Labor wage and career projection data, as well as built-in interest assessments to help you discover your career direction. Contact Career Services to learn how to use this program and to obtain a guest username and password. If you already have a username and password, click here or on the CIS icon to login.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR MY EDUCATION?
New Mexico residents who enroll in a community college or university the first regular semester after they earn their high school diploma or GED are eligble for the Lottery Scholarship. Click here for more information.
