Achieving The Dream
Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count is a long-term national initiative to help more community college students succeed, particularly those student groups who have traditionally faced the most significant barriers to success (low-income and of color). Ultimately, the initiative seeks to help more students achieve their individual goals, which may include obtaining a better job, earning an associate's degree or certificate, and/or attaining a bachelor's degree.
By joining the Achieving the Dream initiative, Santa Fe Community College seeks to examine what is happening on our campus in an open and straightforward way, clearly identifying challenges and barriers to student success and determining appropriate responses to those challenges. SFCC's commitment to AtD requires strengthening our institutional capacity to
- pursue student success with commitment and zeal,
- function as "learning organizations,"
- develop a culture of inquiry, evidence, and accountability, and
- make systematic and lasting changes.
Over time, SFCC will document the percentage of low-income and students of color who achieve certain measures, with the hope that by increasing student success for these groups, the institution will increase success for all students. AtD is particularly focused on increasing the number of students who achieve the following measures:
- successfully complete developmental courses and progress to credit-bearing courses
- enroll in and successfully complete gatekeeper courses;
- complete the courses they take, with a grade of C or higher;
- re-enroll from one semester to the next; and
- earn certificates and degrees.
